The Importance of Mobile App Management for Modern Healthcare Organizations

The Job of doctors and nurses is quite exhausting. From teams of healthcare professionals driving around town to town to nurses running around their hospitals or clinics to doctors, everyone taking care of health or belong to the healthcare industry needs to stay mobile.

The Importance of Mobile App Management for Modern Healthcare Organizations

Thank god we have mobility which has evolved to level where every task related to healthcare, healthcare professionals and patients can be simplified to a great extent.

No surprise healthcare hospitals and clinics are nowadays taking help of mobiles and using third party apps to connect with several processes, procedures, healthcare staff and patients to enhance their productivity.

But in most cases, they are using third-party apps which help them simplify their works. On the other hands, the benefits provided by these apps do also come with new challenges and, the common ones of them include mobile security and version control.

So without a robust Mobile App Management (MAM), bringing in mobility to healthcare environment may do more damages than good.  These third party apps are always exposed to security attack, data theft, etc.

Why Mobile App Management is become vital within healthcare organizations.

As I mentioned above, healthcare organizations around the world have now begun to use a number of mobile health apps to stay connected with patients. The 2016 HIMSS Connected Health Survey says that 58 percent of hospitals offer mobile-optimized patient portals, 48 percent of them use applications to education patients and increasing engagement with them while 37 percent use mobile health solutions to monitor patients remotely.

Then we have apps used by healthcare teams to connect with one another so that the workflow and remote access of patient electronic health records can be managed.

In this way, there are
a number of apps used by healthcare organizations to take care of the patient, transit information between staff, access record, etc. But, in the mean time, it turns out to be a cumbersome task for IT departments to manage all these apps.
Here, MAM provides a single platform to control all the apps used by patients and staff members. Also, the MAM can control who can download apps ad what data users can access.
With a better MAM in place, IT can block the outdated versions of apps and push automatic updates.
It is important to control the versions of an app as outdated ones are vulnerable to bugs and malicious hackers and, they do not have the latest functions that are added to the new version to improve the productivity. The MAM also allows IT to see who is using apps and, how they are using them. This is valuable information for the enhancements to be made in future.

Mobile App Management and Mobile Device Management are good enough but Enterprise Mobile Management is the next level.

The mobile app management solution may be sufficient for small healthcare organizations which do not have a lot of apps or users but want better security from risks and scalability for mobile complexities.
But hospitals and large healthcare networks require sophisticated solutions to manage their work procedures.
Many hospitals and clinics are already using MDM (Mobile Device Management) solutions to secure the devices like smartphones and tablets used by staff members.
Though hospitals following BYOD policies generally run into functionality restrictions and glitches related to user-experience with the separate MDM solutions.
Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) can easily be merged with Mobile App Management (MAM) and Mobile Device Management (MDM) along with Mobile Content Management (MCM).
This is how IT departments of healthcare organizations can have absolute control over the entire suite of devices, apps and information level.
With the use of EMM, IT departments are able to wrap apps into single enterprise container along with extra security checks like in-app virtual private network for apps, specifically for sensitive data, PIN requirements and data sharing restrictions.
This is how data can be secured and, healthcare providers can stay productive and, patients can have seamless experiences with apps.
The mobile app developers responsible for building such apps need to take care of app right from the beginning.
Healthcare apps are prone to high risk of being breached. By taking right precautions right from the beginning, the developers can ensure high level of security with the healthcare apps designed by them.
